KindRunner Custom Fit Process

Have you checked out yet? If not, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!?! They are an amazing online running store with an experience like no other.

One of their many great concepts: Custom Fit Process. As most of you know, if you go into a running store, they will look at your current sneakers and help you find a good sneaker based on your stride and form. Well, does this as well, online and with a phone call.

I absolutely LOVE my sneakers Brooks Pure Connect, I’ve had some great results in them and they fit wonderfully. I wanted to try out the Custom Fit Process to 1: make sure they were the right shoe for me, 2: experience the process itself, as a KindRunner ambassador it is good knowledge to have and 3: discuss trail shoe options. Going through the custom fit process is one of the best decisions I’ve made for my running.

The first steps are to fill out an online questionnaire that asks about your running habits, current shoes, issues, injuries, etc. Then, you attach pictures of the soles of your running shoes so they can examine your wear pattern for stride, pronation, supination, etc. Next step: schedule a time for the phone call.

I didn’t write on my application, and they didn’t tell Mike when he was given my info and photos, that I am a KindRunner Ambassador. I wanted to experience this as any customer would. Mike called me right at my scheduled time (I LOVE punctuality!), and we got right down to business. He discussed what was on my info sheet and then stated that based on the wear pattern I am pretty much as neutral as they come in runners. I hit midsole on the 4th to 5th metatarsal and turn in to the center, just like one should. That basically, it shows I work on my form. So, yes, FORM IS IMPORTANT!! Overall, I was right, this is a great shoe for me. For running efficiency in this shoe, I am a 9 out of 10. He did discuss with me the Brooks Pure Cadence, as it has more arch support but the same heel drop. He asked why I preferred the low heel drop and when I told him it helps me keep my form by letting me know when I heel strike, he laughed and said, yep, form is important to you. (it is, knocking on wood, I have never had a running injury).

So… with the determination that my street and racing shoes were a good fit and options for me if I wanted more arch support, I asked him about trail shoe options. As I increase my trail running, it is beyond evident that my Connects are not good on the trail. Mike reviewed four different shoes with me and gave me great information as far as weight of the shoe, heel drop, what terrain each is better for and how they fit (snug, narrow, etc). He gave me his thoughts on which ones would be best for the trails I would be running.

Then, he started to tell me about KindRunner and how he started the business. At this point, I let him know I was an Ambassador, he was excited to hear how much I enjoy the company and commented how no one told him that before he called. I am glad… it was nice to learn that they treat all customers the same.

So… now the decision is which trail shoes do I get??

I went with Inov8 and they had a unisex version so I didn’t have to wear pink.

All in all, I couldn’t be happier with my experience. I have been to several local running stores and definitely feel that I received more in depth information, more dedicated time as the customer, and great feedback on my shoe/running concerns with KindRunner than I ever got in a store.

Well… now it’s your turn. Go check them out, sign up for the Custom Fit Process and experience it yourself. I want to hear how it goes.

Remember… they also offer Confident Runner Pricing if you know which shoes you want and won’t need to worry about exchanging/returning them, Kindness Cash: where you receive $10 for every old pair of shoes you send back for them to re-purpose, and free shipping.

When you hear the words “A Kind Runner” what comes to mind? When I think of runners, Kind Runners, I think of my comrades… those of us out there changing ourselves daily, encouraging one another, supporting one another, offering insight and assistance. Helping each other and those around us. Helping even non-runners by encouraging them to make healthier decisions, or try running. Helping people find the right shoes or right fueling.

Those of you who are runners know how unique the group of runners is. We wave hi to strangers on the road, cheer everyone on, and on days we aren’t racing, a lot of us get up before the sun to stand on sidewalks and cheer on those that are racing. We congratulate each other and celebrate a time improvement of seconds. We share training information constantly. What worked for us and what didn’t. We talk sneakers, tread wear, clothing, socks, etc. Then, we huddle together early in the morning waiting for the start of a race. We share glories, anxieties and many, many miles.

I have always been a supporter of runners, the running community, and the environment. I love to volunteer. What I take out on a run comes back with me. When asked to define a Kind Runner, we may have different definitions, however, a new online store truly defines KindRunner. I’d like to introduce you all to the new face of running: is the definition of helping others by offering professional reviews and information, helping the community as a whole as well as those in need.  This company is changing the face of running and I for one am excited to be an Ambassador of this innovative and exciting company!!

575365_388338847941862_956675746_n is a store that wants to bring the joy and love of running to everyone in the community. They don’t just want to give a basic few word review of the shoes; they want to give you the ins and outs, pros and cons, expert video reviews and customer experiences. You have a concern regarding foot problems and running? They have information for you. They are giving the information and review of the product a face with videos and expert reviews. They even have experts available to work with you to find the right shoe fit! Us runners, we know the importance of good sneakers. We also know that my favorite sneaker and your favorite sneaker are completely different and that’s okay.

What else makes different? Their commitment to the community and to reducing the carbon footprint left by runners is a pretty awesome concept. How are they going to do this? wants to help you clean out your closet!! Honestly, how many of us don’t have piles of old shoes hanging out in the closet? I think I have at least 5 pairs of sneakers I can no longer run in. They created a program for you to ship your old sneakers to them (free of charge) and they will donate them to those in need through Soles 4 Souls and The More Foundation Group. We may not be able to run another race in them, but for someone with no shoes, they will go further than we could ever imagine. Added bonus, on top of repurposing your old sneakers, you will also receive credit on their website for future purchases.

Here are some

KEY Factors that no one else offers and make unique!

  • Free 3 Way Shipping – Free shipping of your order to you, free shipping of any returns for any reason, free shipping of your donated shoes back to us for re-purposing with Soles 4 Souls or The More Foundation Group.

  • Kindness Cash Rewards Program – This is what turns your old shoes into credit towards new ones or any product on our website. KCR are available to the customer after any footwear purchase (the idea behind this is to replace your old shoes with new ones, and keep the old ones out of the garbage, landfills, or one’s closet… thus why it is available after footwear purchase). Upon receipt of their footwear order, customers have the option to place their old shoes into the KindRunner shipping box and place the pre-paid return label on the box for shipment back to us.  Upon receipt of the label, we will scan the bar code and place the KCR onto the customer’s account for future use.  Each return label (whether it contain one pair or 4 pairs of shoes) is worth $10 KCR per new shoes purchased (5 pairs purchased on that order, you can earn up to $50 KCR) or credits towards future purchase. The KCR can be used to purchase ANYTHING that KindRunner sells and will never expire.

  • Expert Product Reviews – Some of you may have seen some of these on our youtube page, Each and every product we carry will come with an expert product review video on the same page that the product is listed on.  These videos are done by individuals who have worked in the running industry for a number of years either as shoe reps, store owners, or expert shoe fitters at one of the oldest running stores in the nation. We bring the knowledge of your neighborhood specialty run shop to the comforts of your own home!

  • Easy 365 returns – A customer has 365 days to return any product, so long as it is in its original packaging and in its original condition.  If you are injured and unable to use the shoe, if your doctor wants you in a different model because of orthotics, no worries… no questions asked!

My Favorite Things for Running

As a runner and blogger I am often asked about what my favorite things are when it comes to running. As any runner knows, you find something you love… and you stick with it. And when it comes to clothing and shoes, performance and comfort in what you have on are key elements to a good run. So, here is my list of my favorite running/fitness items (in no specific order, I love them all):

  1. Brooks Pure Connect Sneakers. I recently switched to Brooks and love them!! I had a great half in them this month, and they help me keep my focus on posture. They are super comfortable and lightweight. I attended a Brooks Running Clinic and they had me run on a treadmill and then evaluated my foot strike. I highly recommend to all runners they get their stride/foot strike evaluated. I am a neutral runner, and I am aware that as I get tired I heel strike, so I went with less cushioning at the heel so that I am aware when I heel strike and can correct for it.  IMG_2995[1] IMG_2990[1]
  2. KT Tape Pro. If you use this, you understand why this is on my list. This stuff is amazing, offers stability, helps with healing and supports concern areas. It is lightweight (I don’t even feel it) easy to apply and waterproof. Their website has great instructional videos. It is a staple in my running bag. I’ve also used it to wrap blister prone areas on my feet so my skin can breathe and blisters don’t happen. Added bonus, it comes in my favorite color green!  91Cfz9Sn6PL._SL1500_
  3. Injinji Socks. I recently found out about these from fellow runners. These toe socks keep your toes separate, reducing friction and blisters. They are super comfortable and lightweight as well. Very breathable while running. I am in love with these socks. Seriously, the more I wear them running, the more I want to throw away all other socks and just wear these.  IMG_3044
  4. Under Armour Sports Bra. Okay ladies… you all understand the pain and frustration of finding the right sports bra. If you are larger chested, this is often more difficult. The first time I tried this on I was in love. It is the ONLY sports bra I use. I have tried so many and this is great, stays in place, doesn’t chafe, the “girls” stay put… what more can I say.  IMG_3217
  5. Under Armour Women’s Victory tank. This is great for the Las Vegas area, which is warm or hot most of the year. A breathable, sweat wicking material that is super comfortable and fits great. It doesn’t ride up while running and keeps me cool. Plus, it comes in some great colors (I have several of the colors)!!  IMG_3218
  6. Yurbuds Inspire for Women. For the runs I do with music, these things are great. The sound quality is amazing and still allows me to hear what is going on around me. They twist and lock into your ear, which makes it virtually impossible for these things to fall out while running. They stay put even with 30+ MPH winds. Cannot beat that!  IMG_2389
  7. Oakley Caveat shades. Hey… I can block the sunlight and look stylish? Sign me up!! These are lightweight, great eye protection and super comfortable. I have had many sunglasses that slide down, don’t feel right, or fog up on humid sweaty runs. Not these, these are just amazing. I wear them ALL the time. I also have recurrent corneal erosion and severe dry eye, so on windy days, this can really irritate my eyes. These shades keep a majority of things out of my eye, which is a great help!  IMG_3210
  8. RunMeter app. I may be one of 5 people that doesn’t have a garmin, so I use the runmeter app. The GPS is very accurate, the details I get are great (pace, splits, elevation charts, etc) and I can set it for intervals if I want a run/walk or sprint/jog workout. I am also able to set target paces, so if I go too fast or slow, it lets me know. Super easy sharing via email or social media so I can track my runs, progress and issues.
  9. iFitness belt. I have the 2 pouch belt, and for long runs, this is a perfect way to carry fueling and my phone, ID, and keys. The belt stays put, is adjustable and has plenty of room to get me through a half marathon.  (as of August 2013 the company name is Fitletic)IMG_2164
  10. Honey Stinger Fueling. (yes, I am sponsored by them in their grassroots program the Hive) In trying almost everything to find fueling that didn’t upset my stomach, was easy to take while running, and tasted good, Honey Stinger did it for me. That the ingredients are all natural and some are organic made it even better. Being honey based, the products go down smoothly and are gentle on my stomach.  IMG_3020
  11. Nathan Water Bottle Sleeve/Pouch. Now that I have to always have eye drops on me, and because it’s hot in Vegas, I can put this on my water bottle for shorter runs I won’t need the belt for, and carry my key and eye drops. Helps keep a grip on the water bottle as well.  A thank you to my brother for gifting me his!IMG_3220
  12. Zensah Compression Sleeves. I wear these after long runs, and after a half marathon, even sleep in them, to help speed up muscle recovery and improve circulation in my legs.   71FwmGTNZzL._SL1400_
  13. Shower Pill Athletic Body Wipes. These things are great to quick clean up after a race so that I can hop in my car and out to eat without offending all the other patrons (or making my car stink). I actually use these suckers all the time, when I travel, at the gym… a great thing to have on hand in case of emergency!!  IMG_2739

Other things: Road ID! I never go for a run without it (sorry no pic).

So tell me, what are your must-have items for running and/or fitness?  What don’t you have that you would like to try?

**Also… to my husband, please let this serve as an ongoing wishlist. If you are ever stumped for a gift, please refer to this list. Thanks!

Sony MP3 Walkman Review

I enjoy listening to music while I run. I do not enjoy wires, etc that come with having music. I was contacted by Race with Meb to try out the Sony Walkman headset. I was intrigued by the concept. A wraparound head piece, that charged to your computer and held 2 GB of music. No wires, additional armbands or whatever… this has potential to be great!

I received the walkman and it was super easy to set up, even on my MAC. I plugged it in, did the old drop and drag to add music and let it charge up. I was excited to try this out. Since it wasn’t a run day, I took it along for the dog walks. It was great, and with less wires and things to have, made concentrating on the dogs and walking them much easier. Overall it stayed in place and the sound quality was good.

I took it out next on a short run. It was a windier day, and when running, the earpieces kept falling out. I felt like I spent more time readjusting the set than I did paying attention to my run. Not fun. But, maybe it was the high winds… I would try it again.

Then, came time to do some traveling!! I thought… let’s try this out. It will keep me from draining my phone battery while traveling cross-country and still provide me with something to drown out travel noises, and music! This was a LIFESAVER on the plane. It lasted the whole 4 ½ hours, obviously stayed put, and provided me with entertainment and my phone had plenty of juice for after I landed without needing to rush to a charger. Perfect.

I tried it on a few other runs, and unfortunately had the same experiences, where the earpieces wouldn’t stay in, causing me to become distracted and frustrated on the runs. I tried both of the sizes of the earpieces they give you with the walkman, and neither did the trick.

So, while I struggled with this while running, it is a great way to have music (or audio books) while walking, doing other exercises or traveling, providing a great alternative to tunes on your phone!

I also liked that the controls were accessible right on the earpiece. This is a sturdy, well manufactured piece of equipment… and man, have walkmans come a loooong way!! Let me know if you have one and how you are using your walkman!

*Although I received this product for this review, the opinions are mine and not influenced by Sony Walkman. Product Review

I was recently given the opportunity to review an outfit from In perusing their site, I quickly fell in love with their clothing line. Such great and fun pieces!!

I was sent the cargo pocket pants and burnout stripe racerback tank. At first glance, I was in love!! The pants are amazingly comfortable and versatile. I can practice yoga in them

IMG_2807 IMG_2806

as well as wear them to the office on dress down day or with a nice sweater or t-shirt to run errands in for the day (and look way better than I would running around in sweats)! Pants that serve multiple purposes? Sign me up!

More on the cargo pocket pants: they are linen and have tons of pockets, zippers and ties… which, to me, just makes them fun! They have an elastic waist with two side adjusters to make them tighter if needed. They never get too baggy or too wrinkly either. I was easily able to do a yoga workout in them, proof that they are flexible enough for movement. They are so comfortable, I almost wore them on the plane when I traveled, but didn’t want to deal with the TSA because of all the pockets and zippers (I prefer path of least resistance when traveling). They quickly became my favorite pair of pants, and I will be honest, I often think of different ways to dress them up or down.

The burnout stripe racerback top is a great workout top. Although not the same feel as sweat-wicking material, it did a great job of keeping the sweat off my skin. I tested this shirt in 3 different capacities: yoga, running and spin class. For yoga… it was great, it really complimented the pants, stayed in place even on inversions and was comfortable. During my run, this tank kept me dry and comfortable throughout. Some tanks don’t sit right, move around too much, but this one just stayed in place! Lastly, I wore this to a spin class. In a room full of sweaty bikers, this top stood out. I received several compliments on it as well. Again, it kept me dry and cool throughout the ride. I would absolutely wear this shirt outside of exercise as well, however, it is a racerback design and other than my sports bras, I have no other undergarments that are racerback. I think I need to change that.

So… now, the best part! When I first received the pants, they were a size too small however, I quickly contacted them to discuss exchanging them and received the next size up. The customer service was quick and extremely friendly. Why is this the best part? Well, because I have that pair available for you to win! They are a size Large. As for sizing, I wear a size 12 in pants (but am a pear shape so my hips/thighs are not super skinny), and the XL fits me perfectly. So, please keep that in mind when entering!! The contest will be up for 2 weeks.  Good luck!! Here is a pic of the pants from their website:
